3.5 weeks! Just 3.5 more weeks until I am done working - which I am pretty excited about. But why? To get me away from my current job where I feel like what I am doing has no purpose and is mind-numbingly boring to me everyday and to become a full-time student. More specifically, a full-time nursing student! Yes, I am excited about that part as well. This is something that I have always wanted to do but never thought that I would be in a position where I wouldn't have to work and could focus completely on school. I kept trying to find other routes where I could go to school part-time but nothing was satisfying me. After discussing it, we decided that I should do this. It's what I want and will be better for us when I am finished too.
I have spent the past year knocking out all other requirements (pre and co) for the program so I will be able to only have the nursing ones left. I start those Jan. 14th. For now, I am going the ASN program route. Eventually I would like to get my BSN as well, possibly MSN - but one step at a time. I figure start here, get working with that RN license, and then do more school when our kids are in school as well. We'll see how that works out. Definitely want to get the BSN though! MSN not so sure about yet. I'm sure many factors will go into that decision when the time comes but at least it is an option.
So, that's the big change coming in our lives. I am ready, excited, and nervous. Nervous about school and the studying/work. Nervous about 6:45AM clinicals. Nervous about going down to one income. But READY above all of that nervousness! I know that there are going to be many long, tiring days involving highs and lows but know that in the end, I will survive.
Also, this is the reason for wanting to wait a couple of years before starting a family. I'm sure that people do it everyday with both - actually some friends are - but I think for us, it would be best if we waited.
Oh - and to just answer to main question that I've received so far.... I really don't know what type of nursing I want to do. My initial thinking right now is Oncology (probably because that's where my volunteer work was Spring semester) but I honestly don't know. I've got time to think. I'm also fully prepared to end up loving something that I thought I would have no interest in or vice versa.

very cool Chantelle! I hope you enjoy it!
Congrats on getting ready to be a full time nursing student!!
That is awesome, I have been asking Tom what you were going to school for and he didn't know! But nursing is awesome. I wanted to do that before I got my MBA, I still think about going back maybe when the girls start school for nursing, so we will see...GOOD LUCK!
Congrats on your decision! It will be overwhelming at times but you'll be at the finish line before you know it! Laugh a lot, get into a good study group, be flexible, and be realistic. Good luck and have fun!

P.S. I start my job in Oncology in four weeks. We need more people like us, who want to make a difference, so hang in there!
Exiting news! That's awesome!
