We're back!

Vacation was good. I think we both needed to get away. Loved the Outer Banks, loved renting a house instead of staying in a hotel, loved having good friends around, loved napping and reading on the beach. It was perfect!

The drives to and from weren't all that great. Nothing wrong happened but I just don't do all that well in a car for that long - especially if there is no movement due to a traffic jam. On the way out, from our house to rental house was 18 hours. This included stops for breakfast, potty breaks, grocery store, and a couple of traffic jams. Thank goodness Greg knows that area well because one traffic jam was in the tunnel. There was no way neither Matt nor I was going to be able to handle that. We both would have had anxiety attacks (and by the way, I never had anxiety about that until he rubbed off on me). Greg was able to divert us around that and saved us. YAY! The way back, from rental house to our house, was 17.5 hours. It went fairly smoothly - although I do not care for my ears popping in VA and WV. That time also included a couple hour stop at the Schneider's. In the end though, the drive was worth it!

I think the ocean decided that it didn't like me. I got my butt kicked with the boogie board and the tube. ARGH! I can't say this is the first time that has ever happened to me though or that I was completely surprised. I think it was most my fault. I couldn't seem to get up fast enough after a wave would send me spinning in a thousand different directions underwater. By the time I would figure out which way was up, another wave was smashing into my face. Ahh - at least it got some good laughs! The boys really seemed to enjoy the waves though.

One of the days we headed up to Carova Beach area, north of the end of the road, to see the wild horses. I thought we would have to hunt and hunt for them but they were right there as soon as the road ended. It was pretty neat to see them - and they were not afraid of anything. There were beach houses up in that area but it is one that you would have to want to totally seclude yourself for the week I would think. Driving on the beach got a bit bumpy at times but was still fun. We actually drove as far north as we could - to the VA state line.

Matt has decided that he now wants to get a Wii. Greg & Christina brought theirs with them and he loved it. The fact that there was baseball too only made that love more real :) Matt even tried to hold the Wii for ransom when they had to leave.

The rest of the time was filled with doing whatever we wanted. We visited the Currituck Light House, went putt putting at Mutiny Bay, ate at Barefoot Bernie's and High Cotton BBQ (and yes, I was able to still avoid meat), had a relaxing night of listening to music on the laptop when a storm rolled through and knocked the power out. All and all, it was a good trip. I could see myself going back to OBX often. Renting a house with friends, being lazy, the beach - wonderful!
